Quality Improvement Monitor, July 24, 2006

WellPoint Inc., is launching a program to pay financial bonuses to hospitals and medical groups if they rank as top performers for heart bypass surgery and other cardiac surgical procedures,The Indianapolis Star reported.

The health insurer said the program will tie reimbursement to quality, with the goal to pay more money to those who are improving patient outcomes and reducing complications, the paper said.
