Nine states to participate in RHIO project

E-Health Trend Watch, July 21, 2006

The American Health Information Management Association's Foundation of Research and Education (FORE) has chosen nine states to participate in a best-practices study for regional health information organization (RHIO). The states are California, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Utah.

Under the terms of FORE's $489,745 contract with the federal Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, the RHIOs studied were required to have an established form of public-private governance and operate statewide. The project will culminate with the production of publicly available reports on best practices for RHIO governance, structure, financing, operations, and health-information exchange policies. The funds will be used to pay six months' salary for research and administrative staff members.
