FASA challenges AHA report as biased against ASCs
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, July 18, 2006
Responding to the July edition of the American Hospital Association's (AHA) TrendWatch publication, FASA has issued a statement that the AHA is delivering biased reports and arguments that prioritize hospitals' financial interests over patient care.
The statement from Kathy Bryant, FASA president, declares that TrendWatch "asserts that it is an analysis to guide policy makers, when in reality it is a biased attempt to influence legislators to enact protective legislation."
Bryant continues, saying, "From the introduction to the policy questions raised at the end, the report demonstrates exactly what it is -a biased attempt to protect the hospitals' turf by throwing allegations at those winning the competition battle through better service, better outcomes and better prices."
The statement challenges the credibility of the report, questioning arguments made against quality and safety in ASCs and payments to Medicare ASCs.
