Rural hospitals share resources to advance IT use
E-Health Trend Watch, July 14, 2006
Although President Bush has directed the government to create a national health information network within the next 10 years, the goal may be out of reach for many rural hospitals due to funding. Many of these hospitals have joined forces to form cooperatives to hire shared staff, contract technical consultants, and negotiate discounts. These cooperatives have the same advantages as large hospital networks, but focus 100% on rural hospitals.
