Campaign exceeds $500 million goal

Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, July 14, 2006

The Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Board of Trustees has raised $556.1 million in private donations to build a new 460,000 square-foot, 280-bed facility designed to meet California's tightened earthquake protection regulations. The campaign, launched in 2003, had an original goal of $500 million.

The board took advantage of the hospital's location near the entertainment industry to boost fundraising. The effort, called Living Proof: The Campaign for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, featured Hollywood writers and artists at celebrity events, and got a plug from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who said in a news release, "Through outstanding patient care, research, education and community outreach, [Childrens] has touched the lives of countless patients and their families."
