Police called to nursing home after conflict occurs

LTC Liability Monitor, July 12, 2006

When conflict arises among staff, residents, or visitors to your nursing home, try to work it out inhouse. When that does not work, make it a part of your facility's policy to contact local police for assistance. That's what one nursing home in Waco, TX, had to do recently when a resident's daughter allegedly became physical with a nurse, reported the Waco Tribune-Herald. The family member was reportedly upset at the care her mother was receiving, and during a discussion with a nurse the resident's daughter grabbed the nurse's arm and pushed her. When asked to leave by staff the woman refused, which led personnel to call the police, according to the Tribune-Herald.
