How does OSHA define 'confined space' in the lab?

Lab Safety Advisor, May 16, 2006

Areas in the laboratory may fit OSHA's definition of confined space. However, the decision must be made on a case-by-case basis. If an employee is required to work in a confined space, often a permit is required depending on the work to be done. If such a place does exist, the employer must inform employees by posting danger signs to alert them to the existence, location, and danger posed by the permit spaces.
