CMS' proposed competitive bidding process could affect PTs
Rehab Private Practice Alert, July 5, 2006
A new rule would force therapists who provide durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS) to bid against other DMEPOS suppliers in order to bill Medicare for them, according to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
The bill could impact therapists ability to provide these services at rates similar to those who solely sell DMEPOS products.
The APTA is asking that therapists who are not solely in the business of providing DMEPOS products receive an exemption from this bidding process.
The APTA sent a letter to CMS on the behalf of its members asking for this exemption. To read the full letter, go to www.apta.org.
