CCHIT to release certification results
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, July 4, 2006
The Certification Commission for Healthcare IT (CCHIT) on July 18 plans to announce the first group of ambulatory electronic health records (EHR) products that comply 100% with CCHIT functionality and security tests, according to the CCHIT Web site.
In testimony before the U.S. Senate, CCHIT Chairman Mark Leavitt said CCHIT certification would serve four functions:
- Reduce the risk healthcare providers face when investing in health IT
- Ensure interoperability of these systems with emerging networks
- Enhance the availability of financial incentives and/or regulatory relief
- Protect the privacy of personal health information
The group will test additional groups of ambulatory EHR systems quarterly and review and update the EHR criteria annually.
