Study: Lower heart risks with potassium-enriched salt

LTC Liability Monitor, June 22, 2006

Potassium-enriched salt is better for seniors than regular salt, according to new research which suggests the alternative can mean lower risk for dying from cardiovascular disease, Reuters reported. The study was conducted by the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Academia Sinica, in Taipei, Taiwan. Its researchers examined 2,000 elders, and those who were given a potassium salt substitute were 40% less likely to die, following heart disease or stroke, over a two to three year period.

High potassium diets in general do much to maintain a healthy blood pressure.
