Medicare implements cardiac rehab payment correction

Rehab Private Practice Alert, June 21, 2006

As of June 21, Medicare began requiring its fiscal intermediaries to process claims submitted under expanded cardiac rehabilitation coverage, according to PT Bulletin Online.

CMS' revised cardiac rehabilitation program expands coverage to patients diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction or stable angina pectoris, or those who have had a heart or heart/lung transplant, coronary artery bypass surgery, heart valve repair or replacement, or percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty.

In its National Coverage Decision (NCD), CMS acknowledges the clinical benefits of physical therapy to cardiac rehabilitation patients. To view the full NCD, click here.
