Health IT access increases moderately

Physician access to practice-based clinical information technology (IT) grew significantly between 2000 and 2005, but many physicians still don't use IT regularly, particularly when writing prescriptions, according to a study by the Center for Studying Health System Change (HSC).

The survey asked more than 6,600 physicians how they used IT for five clinical activities. The 2004-2005 survey found the following changes in health IT use from a similar 2000-2001 survey:
