Changes in condition
Long-Term Care Nursing Advisor, June 16, 2006
Nurses are responsible for identifying and acting upon changes in a resident's condition. In fact, recognizing a change in condition and acting on it by using the nursing process is the best method of providing quality of care and preventing litigation.
Another factor to consider is that family members often note subtle changes before a problem is apparent to facility personnel. This is not a negative. Take their concerns seriously. Family members know the resident intimately, much better than you do. They will appreciate you for welcoming their observations, and including them in the care process. Being attentive to their concerns goes a long way in helping to avoid future litigation.
