NY woman indicted for stealing identity of PT
Rehab Private Practice Alert, June 7, 2006
A Manhattan, NY, district attorney indicted Caryn Dinetz on charges of stealing the identity of a Manhattan physical therapist to scam $24,581.90 from five separate health centers, according to a release from the district attorney's office.
Dinetz logged on to the New York State Education Department Web site and located the license for Karen Levine, a Manhattan PT.
Dinetz printed out the Web page and used it as her license to get hired by the five health centers, stating the site made a mistake on the spelling of her first name and that Levine was her maiden name. She treated patients at all five facilities for various amounts of time.
The defendant will face eight different charges, the most serious being identify theft in the first degree and grand larceny in the third degree, according to the district attorney's office.
