Woman with knife attacks nurse
Healthcare Security Weekly, May 8, 2006
A suspect allegedly assaulted a nurse at Sierra View District Hospital in Porterville, CA, before a brief standoff with police, the Porterville Recorder reports.
Sergeant John Hall said hospital security detained the woman and received assistance from a passing traffic officer. "The female subject was detained inside a van in the parking lot," Hall told the Recorder.
The suspect exited the van wielding a knife with a blade over six inches long when the police officer arrived. The officer drew his weapon and ordered the suspect to stop, according to Hall. The suspect dropped the knife when more police assistance arrived moments later.
The nurse was not seriously injured in the assault.
