Unannounced JCAHO surveys keep security departments on their toes

When the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) began performing unannounced surveys in January, many hospitals feared it would lead to more problems. However, on the security end, the idea of unannounced surveys may have been a blessing in disguise. Instead of fastidiously preparing for a JCAHO survey in the months leading up to it, security departments now must keep everything in order at all times.

Be sure to keep these records and others updated at all times:

  • Detailed security plans
  • Maintenance records
  • Employee training
  • Competency assessments
