Study unable to determine whether CPOE systems prevent med errors

E-Health Trend Watch, May 19, 2006

A federal study by researchers with the Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality has concluded that data from the MEDMARX national medication-error-reporting program cannot be used to determine whether computerized physician order-entry (CPOE) systems prevent medication errors. However, MEDMARX data can provide insights into specific types of errors related to CPOE systems. The study was published in the February 15 American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy.
