HealthSouth considers name change
Rehab Private Practice Alert, May 17, 2006
In attempt to distance itself from past accounting scandals, HealthSouth Corp., the Birmingham (AL)-based healthcare provider, is considering changing its name, according to the Birmingham News.
The accounting scandal came to a conclusion last year when 15 former employees pleaded guilty to making phony bookkeeping entries under the direction of Richard Scrushy, the operator of physical therapy clinics.
The name-change consideration comes after HealthSouth reported a first-quarter loss of $435.1 million, the Birmingham News reported. HealthSouth physical therapy clinics lost $9.3 million in earnings.
