Virginia Web site translates healthcare phrases

Physician Practice Advisor, May 17, 2006

A new Virginia Department of Health Web site provides translations of common healthcare phrases from English to Spanish to help healthcare workers treat patients who speak only Spanish, according to an article in the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

The Web site also provides links to resources to help healthcare workers understand cultural differences that may affect delivery of healthcare services to immigrants. State officials say the Web site will eventually add audio so people can hear how words are pronounced and translations in up to two dozen languages may be added, according to the article.
