AHIMA to promote CAC with a workshop
EHR Connection, May 9, 2006
The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) in September will start setting standards for computer-assisted coding (CAC) by sponsoring a workshop.
AHIMA plans to involve users of coding software, vendors, and industry stakeholders. Grants from CodeRyte Inc., MedQuist Inc., and 3M Health Information Systems are helping out with some of the cost, reports AHIMA.
Even though various vendors now sell software to match diagnosis and procedure codes to appropriate payment codes for reimbursement, no specific standards exist to evaluate CAC software to make sure programs appropriately capture complete and accurate data.
