Virtual doctor visits for inmates
E-Health Trend Watch, May 5, 2006
Inmates in Kentucky jails and prisons will receive doctor visits electronically in a program designed to save time and money. The program will include all 13 prisons and 75 jails across Kentucky by this spring. The wireless electronic medical record system allows doctors to review a patient's health information through a tablet computer. Then the doctor decides whether a patient needs care and which specialist should provide it. A prison physician will still conduct routine checkups.
