Public service program offers free mammograms
Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, May 5, 2006
The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) and Commerce Bank are celebrating Mother's Day by giving qualifying women free mammograms. The service will connect women forty and over who meet income guidelines and who have little or no insurance with facilities that will donate the service.
The campaign includes special brochures that will be available at all Commerce Bank locations in Central Pennsylvania. It also has an educational component, reminding women about the importance of early detection. Founded in 1990 by a breast cancer survivor, the community outreach program has served more than 25,000 women to date.
Women can determine eligibility by calling toll-free, 1-877- MAMMO-PA or 1-877-626-6672 between May 2 and 19. The toll-free line is provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and operated by Family Health Council of Central PA. Operators are available from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday starting May 2.
