Disaster manual arrives from AHCA

LTC Liability Monitor, April 27, 2006

The American Health Care Association (AHCA) this week made available a new disaster planning guide, hoping to better prepare long-term care workers for disaster scenarios following last year's tragedies in the gulf coast and Florida. According to an AHCA press release, the 150-page manual encompasses a range of disasters, including fires, tornados, bomb scares, hazardous community accidents, bio-terrorism, hypopyrexia, hyperpyrexia, floods, and hurricanes.

From the planning end, the guide considers evacuation and without-evacuation situations as well as transportation, housing, finance, insurance, and legislative and legal issues. You can order the guide direct from AHCA at www.ahca.org or by calling 1-800-321-0343 and mentioning product number 6844. Cost is $75 for AHCA members and $100 for non-members.
