Securing a patient’s valuables
Healthcare Security Weekly, April 24, 2006
The loss or theft of patient valuables can have a decidely negative effect on the credibility of the security department. Consider the following questions when including techniques and equipment designed to protect such property:
- Are patient valuables logged in immediately?
- Is there a "drop safe," or some other reliable means of securing patient valuables taken after normal business hours?
- Are proper envelopes used for patient valuables?
You can find this tip and others in the HCPro publication, Hospital Security Professionals' Manual: An Assessment and Planning Guide. For more information about this book or to order, call our customer service department at 800/650-6787 or click here
