Blue Cross starts e-prescription pilot
E-Health Trend Watch, April 21, 2006
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Philadelphia will provide 500 physicians with electronic prescribing tools as part of a $1 million, 12-month pilot project to reduce drug errors and pharmacy costs. Participating physicians will receive handheld computers and training. The program may be expanded pending results from the pilot. In addition to improving patient safety and quality of care, the program also alerts prescribers to generic, less-costly alternatives to drugs they may currently prescribe.
