Helping consumers make better healthcare choices

Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, April 21, 2006

A new booklet aims to help patients take better charge of their own health by making them more savvy healthcare consumers. Compare Your Health Care: Become an Informed Consumer is designed to help patients "ask questions and demand information" when choosing doctors, hospitals, and nursing homes, and making choices about treatment and care, according to a news release.

The booklet was published by the National Partnership for Women & Families, a Washington, DC-based non-profit group that promotes quality healthcare and workplace equality, with a grant from the Bloomfield, CT-based insurance company CIGNA. It includes information on how to become a more informed patient and consumer and has a list of sources that provide quality and performance information about providers, the release said.
