Hospital finds group work helps stroke recovery
Rehab Private Practice Alert, April 12, 2006
The Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific in Honolulu, HI, has discovered that treating stroke victims in groups helps with their recovery, according to the Honolulu Advertiser.
Stroke survivors get together three days a week to perform exercises and therapy in a group setting.
Hospital staff members say the setting works well because patients in the group help motivate other members, knowing what each person went through from first-hand knowledge.
The program tries to build up the victim's self-confidence, while also building on strength and good health habits.
