EHR adoption may take 10 years
E-Health Trend Watch, April 14, 2006
According to a report in the January Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association, the Bush administration's goal of nationwide implementation of electronic health records by 2014 will not be met if current trends continue. The report researchers also state that the target may not be reached until 2024 due to slow adoption rates within small medical practices. Another factor is "vendor volatility," or the fear that the vendor that a physician chooses may not be around to provide technical support.
