Research shows majority of physicians don't support P4P initiative

Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, April 7, 2006

A recent online study showed 62% of 2,727 doctors surveyed do not support the Bush administration's push to publicize performance of health are providers and link Medicare payments to quality through pay for performance arrangements.

The Parsippany, NJ-based healthcare market research organization Hospital Research Associates (HRA) conducted the study on March 10-17 in response to the American Medical Association's (AMA) pact with Congress to develop over 100 standard measures of performance, according to a press release from HRA. The study also showed 44% of doctors surveyed are not sure if they agree or disagree with the accord between the AMA and Congress, and 36% were unsure if they were open to the concept of pay for performance.
