Security guard gets six months for stealing from kids

Healthcare Security Weekly, April 10, 2006

Former Alberta Children's Hospital guard Michael Desjardine received a six-month jail term for stealing more than $10,000 worth of property intended for sick children, the Calgary Sun reports.

Although Desjardine had no previous record, Judge Marlene Graham said jail was necessary because he stole something he was employed to protect. "The accused was employed as a security guard . . .employed to prevent the very offenses he committed," Graham said.
