JCAHO surveyors focus on staff qualifications
Infection Control Monitor, April 7, 2006
This week's tip: JCAHO surveyors focus on staff qualifications A specific degree or educational background is not required, but you must document your infection control (IC) staff's basic qualifications (e.g., in nursing, as a medical technologist, etc.), as well as evidence of ongoing educational opportunities. Options for these opportunities include attending a basic training program for IC and epidemiology working with an experienced ICP as a mentor (which is especially important if the new ICP is in a rural area with limited access to training) gaining knowledge through experience in the field of IC/epidemiology attending intermediate or advanced training programs participating in ongoing in-service education maintaining certification in IC You can find this tip and others in the HCPro publication, Infection Control Compliance Guide.
