Congressman to introduce electronic health information privacy bill
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, April 11, 2006
A Rhode Island congressman has said he will introduce legislation to help protect the privacy of health records, according to an article in Government Health IT.
Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) spoke at a Capitol Hill press conference where he was joined by a coalition of 26 national organizations that "urged the House to include privacy protections in health information technology legislation now under consideration," according to the article.
"We need a strong privacy law that covers everyone who has access" to individuals' health records, said Kennedy, according to Government Health IT.
One of the congressman's aides said Kennedy wants to introduce the bill in May and that it will be called the Electronic Health Information Privacy Act.
