Massachusetts survey site 'too superficial'
LTC Liability Monitor, April 6, 2006
Critics of the Massachusetts state Department of Health lambasted the nursing home survey section of its Web site for being "too superficial." Among their criticisms are that the information provided on the site, which presents state survey ratings in a report card format, "might not paint a complete or accurate picture of how well a nursing home cares for its patients," reported the Brockton Enterprise.
Observers worry that people looking to place loved ones in homes are relying too heavily on the site's general ratings, when a more thorough evaluation-visits, research, testimonials-is a much better way to judge the quality of a nursing home. One state nursing home was recently fined for failing to report the rape of an elderly resident, but someone accessing the Web site would never know that, one critic suggested to the Enterprise.
