Police look into claim that hospital is dumping homeless people

Healthcare Security Weekly, March 27, 2006

Authorities in Los Angeles are investigating claims that Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Bellflower, CA, have been putting homeless patients into taxis and sending them away, reports the Associated Press.

Police say they have video of a homeless woman leaving the hospital in a gown and slippers and entering a taxi.

A city spokesman told the Associated Press that hospitals are supposed to release homeless patients to shelters instead of sending them off to find help on their own.
