GA hospital boosts security after abduction

Healthcare Security Weekly, March 20, 2006

The Medical Center of Central Georgia (MCCG) acted quickly to change its maternity ward security procedures after a February infant abduction, reports the Macon (GA) Telegraph.

The hospital will now require visitors to the maternity ward to show identification and for patients to verify they are expecting guests. MCCG also placed restrictions on which personnel has access to the ward.

The added security comes after a teenager posed as a hospital employee and took a baby from its mother's room.

Other changes in security include improved software and more training for mothers on keeping their infants safe.
