Delaware PT warns of gardening injuries
Rehab Private Practice Alert, March 22, 2006
As spring approaches, John Bradley, a PT from Performance Physical Therapy and Fitness Center in Hockessin, DE, says therapists should warn patients about potential injuries from gardening in an article in the Delaware News Journal.
Bradley says people rarely stretch prior to performing tasks such as raking, digging, weeding, and other chores of lawn and garden care.
Much like getting ready for a sport, Bradley recommended in the article that therapists warn patients of the dangers associated with gardening, especially since people will be using muscles they haven't used all winter in some cases.
He says PTs will often see shoulder, back, and leg injuries this time of year that could be prevented with the proper precautions.
