IT improves diabetic patient care

E-Health Trend Watch, March 24, 2006

An article slated for future publication in the Journal of General Internal Medicine states that there is mounting evidence that emerging information technology (IT) may improve the care of diabetic patients. The article is based on an analysis by researchers at the departments of medicine and epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions of 26 studies of computer-assisted IT programs with adult diabetic patients. The study durations range from six to 29 months. Most studies reported positive results and found that IT-based interventions improved healthcare utilization, behaviors, attitudes, knowledge, and skills.
