New .md domain suffix provides country with import revenue

Moldova, a former Soviet republic, is capitalizing on the .md domain suffix. Although Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe, the .md suffix provides it with a small but growing amount of import revenue. MaxMD seized an opportunity two and a half years ago by negotiating with a company in Moldova that had a relationship with the country's government. MaxMD has a contractual relationship that gives it exclusive rights to market and distribute the .md domain in the United States.
According to the company's senior vice president, Seanne Murray, the company hopes to help the medical community while benefiting the country of Moldova. The domain suffix will let healthcare professionals link their online products with a domain suffix that has a strong association with healthcare.
