JCAHO: IT key part of surge capacity

Information technology plays a key role in the development of the hospital surge capacity, according to a report released by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). The report, titled Surge Hospitals: Providing Safe Care in Emergencies, cites that communication is often the weakest link when responding to mass casualties. The JCAHO is considering the establishment of standards for surge hospitals, the report said.
