Panel urges update of e-prescribing standards
E-Health Trend Watch, February 17, 2006
The National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics advisory panel is urging the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to allow physicians to use the newer Script Standard Implementation Guide, Version 8.1, instead of Version 5.0. The panel contends that the latest version, used by the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs, is more functional than Version 5.0 while still being compatible with the older product. The standards for sending prescriptions to pharmacies have been developed by the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs.
