World digital library project announced

E-Health Trend Watch, January 27, 2006

The United States Library of Congress has announced the creation of the World Digital Library (WDL), according to SearchEngineWatch. The project received its first $3 million in funding from Google. The project will use public and private money to create a virtual library allowing users to access the world's library materials. The WDL plans to be a repository of collections from nations around the world. The Library of Congress plans to draw from its own resources as part of the effort. Only public domain materials or material with special permission granted will be included in the WDL.
