Hospital worker helps patients communicate
Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, March 31, 2006
A special ID card will help people with speech impairments to clearly identify their conditions in an emergency or during routine activities. It was developed by a rehabilitation specialist at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, an 80-bed facility in Grand Rapids, MI.
"The idea for the card came after a patient shared with me his story of being pulled over for a minor traffic violation and how difficult the experience was because of his communication impairment," said Linda Wells, the speech language pathologist at Mary Free Bed who developed the patient-friendly card.
