Florida fire incident stemmed from argument
LTC Liability Monitor, March 30, 2006
Look for warning signs that your residents' safety is at risk and try to prevent harmful events. Staff at a Fort Lauderdale, FL, assisted living facility (ALF) learned this lesson the hard way after a resident allegedly lit his roommate on fire. The incident left burns over 96% of the roommate's body after his bed was set on fire by gasoline or some other fuel, reported the Miami Herald.
Warning signs of trouble came after local police were called to the ALF days earlier to break up an argument between the victim and the alleged arsonist. A witness and third roommate of the two men said the duo were involved in a "kind of turf war" and that the fire victim previously spat in the face of the roommate he argued with, reported the Herald.
