RT arraigned on molestation charges
Respiratory Care Weekly, March 15, 2006
Police arrested a 54-year-old respiratory therapist working at Children's Hospital in San Diego on dozens of charges stemming from about 500 pornographic pictures of patients he allegedly posted to the Internet, according to an LA Times report. Federal and local investigators discovered the photos-some of them possibly taken with a cell phone camera-during a child-pornography sting.
All of the victims were physically and mentally disabled, requiring help with bathing, dressing, and eating. Hospital officials conducted a background check on the employee when they hired him, but nothing inappropriate showed up, they told the LA Times. As a result of the charges, the hospital immediately banned cell phone cameras from the facility.
"They are devastated, just like we are," an emotional hospital administrator Pamela Dixon said of the children's parents. "They trusted him, just as we did. They feel extremely violated."
