NH passes bill requiring ASCs to report infection stats

Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, March 14, 2006

A bill was passed last week by the New Hampshire House of Representatives requiring state ambulatory surgery centers and hospitals to report statistics about patient infections up to four times a year, according to the Concord Monitor.

The bill (HB 0224), which now goes to the Senate for review, would require the Department of Health and Human Services to develop a system for facilities to track and report infections.

The bill would require hospitals to track types of infections, the department or unit within the facility where a patient became infeced or was first diagnosed, and the original reason for the patient's admission, according to the story.
