AQA to launch program to measure physician performance

Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, March 7, 2006

The Ambulatory Care Quality Alliance (AQA) plans to launch a pilot program in six US regions to measure physician performance in ambulatory care and, ultimately, provide a national framework for performance measurement and public reporting.

The AQA, which now includes nearly 125 member organizations, has selected the following pilot sites and organizations:

  • California Cooperative Healthcare Reporting Initiative
  • Indiana Health Information Exchange
  • Massachusetts Health Quality Partners
  • Minnesota Community Measurement
  • Phoenix Regional Healthcare Value Measurement Initiative
  • Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality will fund the pilot. The pilot test will analyze a range of approaches to gathering and reporting data on physicians and will combine public and private information to measure and report on physician practices.
