Most hospitals do not require initial board certification of pediatricians

Quality Improvement Monitor, February 27, 2006

A survey of 200 hospitals found that nearly 80% do not require board certification of pediatricians at the time of initial granting of hospital privileges, according to a study published in the February 22 Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). Most hospitals require board certification at some point during a pediatrician's tenure.

However, many hospitals do not specify a time limit on when pediatricians must achieve certification, according to the study.
