AMA to work with Congress on performance measures

Quality Improvement Monitor, February 27, 2006

The American Medical Association (AMA) has signed a pact with Congress to develop more than 100 performance measures that doctors would report to the federal government, the New York Times reported. The measures will focus on diagnostic tests and treatments that are known to produce better outcomes for patients.

The agreement states that Congress and the AMA will develop 140 performance measures in 34 clinical areas by the end of 2006. By 2007, doctors would voluntarily report to the federal government on between three and five quality measures.
