Colorado hospitals making security a priority
Healthcare Security Weekly, February 27, 2006
Several hospitals in Colorado are beefing up security to improve customer relations, reports Coloradoan.com.
Hospitals are discovering that making security more visible is a selling point among patients and visitors because it makes people feel safer during stressful times.
North Colorado Medical Center now has 212 surveillance cameras, a computer-generated log that tracks staff as they use coded ID cards, and is about to begin using a dog to patrol facility grounds.
Poudre Valley Hospital uses 82 cameras and a metal detector, in part because of September 11, but also because of an increase in mentally ill patients visiting hospitals due to a lack of inpatient beds, reports the Web site.
