Former inspectors among Delaware fraud suspects
LTC Liability Monitor, March 2, 2006
Five nurses were charged with fraud and abuse at a Delaware nursing home last week, and two of them were found to be former state inspectors, the Delaware News Journal reported. Among other charges of resident neglect, the employees of Smyrna-based Green Valley Pavilion allegedly defrauded Medicaid in 2003 by reporting care not actually given.
The accused also listed nurses as providing resident care when those nurses were in fact doing other duties, in order to sidestep Delaware's nursing home staffing law. Court records revealed that two employees worked as quality-verifying surveyors, and one conducted reviews for Medicaid, the News Journal reported.
